Happy New Year 2010

Today is the last day of year 2009. The most unforgettable milestone for April and May was sleeping in their own bed and own room. This adjustment was smoothly accomplished without much trouble. What I still do now every night is to tell them the bedtime stories and sing them the lullabies before I leave for my own room. Hence, hubb and I really have more time to catch up every night when compare to the time they were still babies.

Last wedding dinner in 2009

We attended my babysitter's son's wedding dinner on the Boxing Day. This was actually the second and the last wedding dinner that I attended in year 2009. This was also the very first wedding dinner we went in one complete family. We didn't bring the children along if we went to colleagues or friends' wedding dinner. Since the host was my children's babysitter, we could get to go in family. My babysitter also invited my PIL, but my MIL was invited to another wedding dinner on the same evening, so only my FIL could join us.
Most of the wedding dinners, we had to wait for more than half an hour (if we were lucky) before the bride and the groom were shown in the hall to kick off the dinner. So, I brought along a lot of snacks like jelly, vitagen, biscuit and seaweed for my princesses to kill the time.
An hour later.....I still couldn't see the shadow of the bride...and I noticed my FIL already ZZzzzzz.......I guess he was too tired of waiting for the dinner to be served.
Finally, the stars of the night arrived at the red carpet. They were a well-matched couple. Everyone said so.
The main supporting actor (babysitter's husband) and the main supporting actress (babysitter) , and a group of children whom they had taken care. The only boy and the girl in pink were the first 2 children whom my babysitter were taking care. The girl in black and white straps shirt was the second batch, and my children were the third batch.
They were nice and friendly couple. Big congratulation to this newly wed.

FIL's Birthday Lunch

Last Monday, we went to Port Weld to have seafood cuisine for lunch, at the same time to celebrate FIL's birthday. This was the 3rd time we were there.

Port Weld and also known as Kuala Sepetang. To get there, we needed to travel to the North South Expressway (PLUS) to Ipoh and exit at Changkat Jering to Taiping road, follow the trunk road until the signage to Kuala Sepetang. Since April couldn't take seafood due to chicken pox, I boiled the watercress with honey dates soup in the morning. Then, we packed the soup and brought along to Port Weld for the girls.
May was helping me to snap a picture of my new hair style. Some friends said I looked mature in this new hair style. I am already a mother of two, if look a bit mature also doesn't matter la! Just for a change in the look.
Little May with her big big eyes and small smal face.
Steamed octopus.
Steamed clams.
Deep fried shrimps.
Steamed prawns.
Steamed fish.
Stir fried spinach.
Stir fried crabs.
Tom yam fish sliced.
April and May only took steamed fished, spinach and the watercress soup with rice.
After the lunch, they drank 100Plus to quench the thirst. 100Plus is the only soft drink that I let them take during hot weather.
The kids were checking out at the river from the fence. SIL's son is always the best buddy of April and May.
The bill was RM250 (inclusive 2 large bottles of beer) for 10 adults and 2 children. The price is considered rather cheap and the seafood is really fresh and nice.

April's Two Front Teeth

What did you do on last Christmas eve? Hubb planned to treat us to the very famous Matang's seafood porridge for lunch. Since my youngest aunt (小姑,xiao gu) was just coming back from Australia for holidays, we invited her and also 2 of her friends along. My xiao gu is a health care consultant in Australia. She saw April having decay at her two front teeth, and she suspected that it was the symptoms of cavities. She wanted us to bring April to visit dentist immediately. Hubb and myself took her advice seriously and brought April to dentist right after our lunch.

To my utterly surprise, I only needed to pacify April for a while and bribed her with a new toy after the dental visit, April turned out to be the most cooperative child. She was so brave and making no fuss at all during the examine. Dentist said her teeth were not loose, and it could still wait for some other time to get it extracted. Since we had made the effort in convincing April for the dental visit, we didn't want the cavities to continue infecting other tooth, and the end causing pain to the gum. Besides, I could smell April's mouth having unexplained bad breath sometimes, regardless how thorough I brushed and cleaned them every morning and night. So her two front teeth were extracted finally. Though she lost her two front teeth, she was still able to laugh so hard at my babysitter's son's wedding dinner on boxing day.
Without the two front teeth, April is still my pretty princess and the most important thing that she has no more bad breath.

Some general knowledge on Cavities,
"Cavities are decayed areas of your teeth that develop into tiny openings or holes. Cavities, also called tooth decay or caries, are caused by a combination of factors, including not cleaning your teeth well, frequent snacking and sipping sugary drinks.
Cavities and tooth decay are one of the most common health problems around the world. They're especially common in children, but anyone who has teeth can get cavities, including infants and older adults.
If cavities aren't treated, they get larger and the decay can cause a severe toothache, infection, tooth loss and other complications. Regular dental visits and good brushing and flossing habits go a long way toward preventing cavities and tooth decay."

That's how our Christmas eve. I find this song is so right for April to learn and sing on this Christmas.

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth
Everybody pauses and stares at me
These two teeth are gone as you can see
I don't know just who to blame for this catastrophe!
But my one wish on Christmas Eve is as plain as it can be!

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth
Gee, if I could only
have my two front teeth,
then I could wish you
"Merry Christmas."

It seems so long since I could say,
"Sister Susie sitting on a thistle!"
Gosh oh gee, how happy I'd be,
if I could only whistle (thhhh, thhhh)

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth.

Gee, if I could only
have my two front teeth,
then I could wish you
"Merry Christmas!"

Dinner and Karaoke

One fine Sunday evening, we went to Jin Yu Man Tang Restaurant for dinner and karaoke again. The first time, I were there with my colleagues, and I have blogged about it here. This time around, I were there with hubb and my 2 princesses. This was also my 2 princesses' first experience in singing K.

I booked and ordered the dishes over the phone, so the lady owner had mistakenly written down 2 types of tofu. Hubb and I were being very cincai, we just walloped whatever the dishes that they served.
Special Green Beancurd. The chef stuffed the vegetable in the beancurd, and that's why it was green in color.
Golden Beancurd.
Fresh Pak Hup Fried Brocolli with Red Snapper Fish.
Curry Fish Head, and Fried Fish Sliced with Ginger and Onion was not in the pictures.
Dessert was Fruity Honey Kuai Ling Kou.
Before April and May started their dinner, they sang their most favourite You Are Not Alone.
Hubb also sang a few songs while having his dinner and beer.
I was a bit surprised to see Twins in Mary Has A Little Lamb and It's A Small World music videos.
This girl group was one time a popular group in Hong Kong and a top band in China. However, after Gillian Chung Yan-tung was caught involving in Edison Chen's scandal in 2008. This group's fame was deteriorated.
They released some children songs album before. If not because of the scandal, she would still be the idol of many teenagers, and even the children.
After singing a few children nursery rhymes, my two girls still preferred MJ's songs. Here they sang Billie Jean.
Last song of the night was also You Are Not Alone. I'm sure you bored about this song already, but don't know why they ain't bored one.
The bill was RM108. It wasn't that expensive, if not because of the 2 large bottles of beer. We enjoyed singing K very much.

Merry Christmas to everyone

To all my friends, blogger friends and fellow readers, I wish you Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday.
This picture was taken at Kuala Sepatang (Port Weld), we went there for FIL's birthday celebration. I will blog about it soon. I had also permed my hair. Just feel like trying something new for the new year. Do you like my new hair style? Hubb didn't like it, he said I look 5 years older. That's why I went for a trim again after his multiple nags. I am still trying to adopt to this hair style now.

Holiday Art Classes

April had gone to art lessons since she was 4. She had learned art for 2 full years, and she seems enjoying the art lessons more and more. I was wondering why she has so much interest in art, as for me, I never interested in art in my whole life, and I only liked mathematics. This holiday, I let her attend the handcraft and art work classes. She asked me to take pictures of her finished art work. The recycled and environmental friendly shopping bag, which she drew and painted the Hello Kitty picture there.
The drawing board. One side was her own creativity drawing.
Another side of the drawing board was sticking with some waste wrapped papers.
This one was only done last weekend. A Christmas tree book mark.

Chicken Pox (part 2)

I mentioned in earlier entry that April has got chicken pox. I have yet to see any spot or rash appearing on May's skin. Doctor had mentioned the incubation period varies from two to three weeks. The virus can easily transmit from the infected person incubating even a few days before rashes appear. Infected persons continue to be contagious until all crops of vesicles have crusted over.

April was unwilling to let me take a picture of her back which grew the most amount of rashes and blisters. She finally let me take a picture of her face when she had finished building a motorcycle with the IKEA DIY toy set.

April was genuinely good girl, as she didn't complaint about any discomfort or itchiness. May be it was because she had got the vaccination of chicken pox before. So, the virus infection was just mild and caused her no fever at all.
Besides, she obeys at my instruction of strictly no scratching on the spots.

Winter Solstice Arrival

Today is Winter Solstice arrival day (冬至). This was my "first" bowl of glutinous rice balls(汤圆) "today". I am working today, so I didn't get to take the glutinous rice balls from home which was cooked by my MIL and helped by my two princesses on yesterday evening. This morning, when I stopped to buy breakfast, I found the glutinous rice balls were selling there too. Immediately, I bought one packet to quench my hunger first. I love glutinous rice balls since young.
Eating glutinous rice balls on Winter Solstice is a Chinese tradition; representing a reunion and also meaning add one year old after eating it. Some old people believed that you have to eat the glutinous rice balls according to the number your age. I really don't mind eating glutinous rice balls according to the number of my age, I am just afraid of the calories which hide in the glutinous rice balls and the sweet soup. I'm so conflicting right?

Chicken Pox

Yesterday evening, I fetched April to her Xin Xuan lesson. She was just normal and fine as usual. In the car, she compliant that she had a blister at her finger. I just told her that I would help to remove the blister with a needle tonight.

When I went to pick her up after her lesson, I saw rashes and red spots at her neck. When we got into the car, I checked her back and chest. There were even more rashes and blisters. I suspected that she had got chicken pox.

I brought her to see doctor immediately. Doctor prescribed her Zyrtec and paracetamol only. Zyrtec is an antihistamines to control severe itching, and paracetamol is to control the low grade fever.
Doctor said that chicken pox is contagious, and soon little May may also be bitten by the virus too.
Oh my! I really don't wish to spend my Christmas holidays only curing the the rashes and treating the blisters. We want to go to party, dine and wine. I hope they can get well by then.

Chicken Pox Symptoms
Chicken pox usually begins with a low grade fever, a mild headache and a feeling of weakness.
Rash appears on the upper chest or back.A rash appears on the skin on the first day of the disease. This is in the form of tiny red spots on the skin, mostly on the upper back or chest. In more severe cases, a rash may appear on the face and lower extremities. The papules turn into blisters and finally become pustules and form scabs, which fall off. They come in successive crops, so that while some are drying, others are beginning to form. The skin clears after a few days and the child feels well again. The duration of this disease ranges from ten to twenty-one days but is usually between fourteen and seventeen days.

Causes of Chicken Pox
Chicken pox is caused by a virus.

Chicken Pox Treatment - Lotions
The most common lotion used for chicken pox is Calamine lotion. This or any similar over-the-counter preparation can be applied to the blisters to help dry them out and soothe the skin.

Chicken Pox Treatment - Antihistamines
Over-the-counter and prescription antihistamines may be used to control severe itching. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is available over-the-counter and hydroxyzine (Atarax) is available by prescription. Both of these antihistamines cause drowsiness and may be helpful at night to help the patient sleep. The newer antihistamines such as loratadine (Claritin), certrizine (Zyrtec), and fexofenadine (Allegra) can be used to control itching but do not cause drowsiness.

Chicken Pox Treatment - Soothing Baths
Frequent baths are sometimes helpful to relieve itching. Adding finely-ground (colloidal) oatmeal such as Aveeno can help improve itching. Oatmeal baths can be prepared at home also by grinding or blending dry oatmeal into a fine powder and adding about 2 cups to the bath water. One-half to one cup of baking soda may also be added to bath water to reduce itching.

Chicken Pox Treatment - Preventing Scratching
Scratching increases the risk of secondary bacterial infections. All patients with chicken pox should have their nails trimmed short. In addition, small children may have to wear mittens to reduce scratching.

Chicken Pox Treatment - Acyclovir
Acyclovir (Zovirax) is an anti-viral drug that may be used to treat chicken pox. In uncomplicated cases acyclovir taken 5 times a day has been shown to cause shorter periods of new lesion formation, fewer lesions, and more rapid healing but only if started within 24 to 48 hours of the onset of the rash. Acyclovir has not been shown to decrease the rate of complications in otherwise healthy children who get chicken pox. Oral acyclovir is more strongly recommended for children with underlying skin disease such as eczema, newborns, adults, and smokers since this group is at greater risk for complications. IV acyclovir is used for people with compromised immune systems.

Get together to eat and sing

Last Friday, the whole MIS department get together at Jin Yu Man Tang Restaurant to have birthday celebrate for Yvonne and Cherry. These two very important ladies' birthdays are just a day apart in December. So, every year end, we would take this opportunity to dine and have fun.
Angeline was suppose to join us, but she couldn't make it due to some personal commitment.
Yvonne and Hayley had blogged about it a day ago. Since I have so many pictures for the night, I must utilise and share with my dearest readers and best friends out there.

These were the dishes for the dinner, which we had ordered 2 days before the evening.
Braised Beancurd with Salted Fish and Chicken Cube in Claypot.
Curry Fish Head.
Sweet & Sour Chicken Cube With Mango.
Mixed Vegetable in Yam Basket.
Fried Four Mixed Vegetable with Sambal Belacan.
Salad Prawn.
Half and hour later, we walloped almost all the dishes.
The only junior of the night. Avery tagged along her birthday mom. One very strong point of this restaurant was the room come with free Karaoke one. I duet with Yvonne. Question: What song we sang?
Answer: The King of Pop's You Are Not Alone. And, also because of this song, I made my husband promise to bring April, May and myself there again.
The Shou Bao was FOC for the two birthday girls. The birthday cake was the blueberry cheese cake from LA Promise.
Yvonne and Cherry - two main casts of the night.
Their shirts were so matching, which reminded me of the colours of the Christmas tree.
Lastly, the group photo. We were so happy and everyone seems enjoyed the food and Karaoke.
