Soup: Preserved Szechuan Vegetable in ABC soup

I wanted to cook the preserved Szechuan vegetable soup long ago. I finally found this ugly but tasty vegetable in the wet market on one weekend morning.
I soaked this preserved Szechuan vegetable in water for about 2 hours, before I washed and sliced it.
Together with the rest of ABC soup ingredients like carrot, onion, tomatoes and pork ribs.
The soup was tasty, but it was a bit too salty for our liking. In fact, I shouldn't add any seasoning, the preserved Szechuan vegetable itself was already salty.

Happy Birthday to my only one

Every time when I complaining of my weight and yelling for a fasting, he will make me juice, regardless dusk or dawn.
He definitely worths me wearing lingerie and perfume at night. *wink!* Today is his Birthday, the girls and me had make him a Birthday Ice Cream cake on the weekend.
On Sunday, April helped me to whisk the ice-cream until fluffy.
Slice the orange flavour swiss roll into pieces and arrange them nicely to the glass container.
Pour in the ice cream to fill up half of the container. Press in remaining swiss roll and pour all the balance ice cream into the container. Freeze the ice cream cake overnight.
The girls decorated the cake last night with a can of Nata De Coco Mixed Fruit and also some star shape colourful sugar candies. In total, the whole cake cost less than RM15. It is not the money, it is the heart that count, right?

Today, we are going to present this cake to the White Knight of the girls in the house. Happy Birthday to my only one.

p/s: Bao Bei, please do not decline my reservation form, remember I have already booked you in my next life.

The Friday of Raya Hari Pertama

Though it was backdated, but I would like to record how we spent the Friday of Raya Hari Pertama.
After waking up, I rushed April to brush the teeth, bath and change. I helped her to blow and tie her hair, and then pack clothes and pajamas for her in the pink bag. She herself packed her pink teddy bear and a tumbler in the green paper bag. Then, her ex-nanny came to pick April up to her house for an over night stay.
There left only little May and myself at home. Papa was covering his Malay colleagues at work. Little May occupied my computer access all alone. My house was extraordinary quiet and I did some house chores to kill the time.
Husband came back with some Raya goodies like lemang, ketupat, rendang chicken and curry dal that he packed from his office's celebration with colleagues. I really appreciated him for thinking of me while enjoying his food, but when he was back with these nice goodies, it was already 9.30pm at night. It was too fat for me to take these food at this hour. In order not to waste his effort, I still wallopped. T__T.
Little May had no interest to do other things, except go online to browse Disney and Barney website again in the evening. Husband and I watched the downloaded version of TVB dramas till quite late in the night.
April was back on the next afternoon. There again, they had playmates and made my house in chaos again.

Juice: Banana milk

Banana is my most favourite fruit. I still remember when I was young, my mom showed me a poster of all types of fruit and asked me to choose the fruit that I like best. I pointed to bananas and made my mom so surprised. I still can recall what she said that time. She said, "Silly girl, out of so many types of fruit, got durian, got mango, why you choose bananas? ", and then all my siblings started to tease me eating bananas liked the monkey. T_T
Now, I still love bananas.
I can take banana milk as my breakfast everyday, but some said banana is fattening fruit. What do you think?

Bananas consist mainly of sugars (glucose, fructose and sucrose) and fiber, which makes them ideal for an immediate and slightly prolonged source of energy.

1. Reducing Depression

Bananas contain tryptophan, an aminoacid that can be converted to serotonin, leading to improved mood

2. Anemia

Bananas are relatively high in iron, which helps the body's hemoglobin function

3. Constipation and Diarrhea

Due to their content in fiber, they help restore a normal bowel function. In addition, diarrhea usually depletes your body of important electrolytes (of which the most important is potassium, contained in high amounts in bananas). They also contain pectin, a soluble fiber (hydrocolloid) that can help normalize movement through the digestive tract.

4. Eyesight Protection

Research published in the Archives of Ophthalmology has proven that adults consuming at least 3 servings of fruit per day have a reduced risk (by 36%) of developing age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), the primary cause of vision loss in older adults, compared to persons who consume less than 1.5 servings of fruit daily.

5. Healthy Bones

Bananas are an exceptionally rich source of fructooligosaccharide, a compound that nourishes probiotic (friendly) bacteria in the colon. These beneficial bacteria produce enzymes that increase our digestive ability and protect us from unhealthy bacteria infections. Thanks to fructooligosaccharides, probiotic bacteria can increase both in number and functionality, increasing our body's ability to absorb calcium.

In addition, green bananas contain indigestible short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) that are very nutrient to the cells that make up the mucosa of the stomach. These cells, when healthy, absorb calcium much more efficiently

6. Healthy Kidney

About 190,000 cases of kidney cancer are diagnosed each year.

Research published in the International Journal of Cancer has shown that daily consumption of whole fruits and vegetables, especially bananas, is highly protective to kidney health. The results show that, over a long time frame (13.4 years), women eating more than 2.5 servings of fruits and vegetable per day cut their risk of kidney cancer by 40%. Among the fruits, bananas were especially protective. Women eating bananas four to six times a week halved their risk of developing the disease compared to those who did not eat this fruit. The conclusion of the study is that frequent consumption of fruits and vegetables, especially bananas, cabbage and root vegetables, may reduce risk of kidney cancer. This is because bananas and many root vegetables contain especially high amounts of antioxidant phenolic compounds, while cabbage is rich in sulfur, necessary for effective detoxification of potential carcinogens.

8. Blood Pressure

Bananas are extremely high in potassium (about 4673mg), yet very low in sodium (1mg), thus having a perfect ratio for preventing high blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

9. Heartburn

Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

10. Morning Sickness

Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood-sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

11. Smoking

Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. They contain vitamins B6 and B12 they contain, as well as potassium and magnesium: these substances help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

12. Ulcers

This is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicle cases. It also helps reduce acidity and reduces irritation. Bananas stimulate the cells on the internal stomach lining to produce a thicker mucus (which protects against acid). Additionally, bananas contain protease inhibitors that help eliminate bacteria in the stomach that have been pinpointed as a primary cause of ulcers.

13. Nerves

Bananas are high in B vitamins that have been shows to improve nerve function

14. Mosquito Bites

Many people report that rubbing the inside of a banana peel on a mosquito bite is very effective in reducing itching and swelling

15. Stress Relief

Bananas are high in potassium, which helps normalize the hearth beat and regulate the body's water balance. During periods of high stress, our body's potassium levels tend to be rapidly depleted: eating bananas is a healthy way to re-balance them without using drugs

16. Stroke Risk

According to a study in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can reduce the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%

My Moon Cake Festival Evening

As usual, every year we had to go to PIL house to celebrate the Moon Cake Festival. After taking dinner with my two princesses at home, I hurried them to finish their homework. Then only we went to granny's house to play lanterns.
When we reached, the house had already filled with Mid-Autumn atmosphere.
April, May and their cousin brother.
The traditional Moon Cake celebration snacks and fruit were prepared by SIL and MIL.
When we had done with the praying, my princesses took a lot of snacks. I was surprised as they told me they were very full after taking dinner an hour ago.
They continued playing candles until 10pm. We said good bye with granny and left for home.

p/s: I like seeing my princesses sharing a bench the whole evening.

Happy Moon Cake Festival

I found all these pictures in my collection. If I don't blog now, they will soon become backdated.
The only period that the children were allowed to play with candles and fire (under adult supervision).
I didn't need to buy lanterns. The lanterns were all bought by the grand parents.
The father wrapped the opened ends with cling wrap, in order to protect the candle from the wind.
Yeh Yeh escorted the girls for a walk.
Here I wish everyone has a wonderful celebration with your family, while enjoying moon, cakes and lanterns.

Lanterns fever

Next Wednesday is the moon cake festival. Have you started to play lanterns and candles with your kid?

My kids actually kept waiting for the hungry ghost month to end, so that they could play lanterns. We started the lantern fun on the first day of the 8th month in Chinese lunar calendar. I felt it was kind of boring to play with only April and May. Besides, my neighbourhood has not many younger children.
So, you get to see them.
Big and little Chi From TAIPING with LOVE.
When I told these two little cuties that Aunty Yan wanted to snap pictures of them, big Chii quickly hold little Chi closer and put her arm around her his shoulder. It was so good to see them so close to each other. From my observation, there was no sign of sibling rivalry between them.
When I showed their mother the pictures, I also gave compliment to her kids for being such a good siblings. Their mother revealed that big Chii always treated her brother as her ornament when posing for pictures. Muahahahhaha!
Coincidentally, Blog with Yan's were in pink and white, whereas From TAIPING with LOVE's were in blue and white.

Little Chi really likes to play masak-masak. I have finally witnessed what her his mother said before. Thanks From Taiping With Love for dropping by my house that evening.

Snow mountain

Sorry for the long hiatus. I am back, but still not being able to stay online for long. At work, I am  meeting project dateline. At home, whenever I wanted to go online, my two princesses would come fighting with me for the computer access. I seriously have to consider buying a new net book for their own usage. So that I could have mine peacefully.
Over the past one week, I have taken so many pictures. Though they were already backdated, I do not want to waste them. I will arrange and share all of them in my blog.
First experience for April and May enjoying these very famous 'snow  mountain' (ice kacang) at the casual market.
Are you surprised? April only get to eat so much ice at the age of 6.
I dare not let her take cold stuff when she was much younger. She was very pruned to cough. When she caught a cough, she took months to get rid of it.
She scooped her ice kacang until the whole bowl had gone empty.
She looked so satisfying.

My 4 years old hand writing

I saw my little May writing something on the white board and I found it really hilarious.
My two girls used to call her papa 'Giant' while playing with him, some times they also called him 'Muscle Man', because her papa has a lot muscle. lol!

Little May  has learned to the spelling of Days, Parts of my body, Colours, Shapes and Number Zero - One Hundred in her nursery. She has yet to start writing any Chinese character in her 4 years old nursery, but she can write a few simple one by  following her jie jie.

My 4 years old is paging the tooth fairy

Last Friday, I got home from work. Before I went out again to pick my princesses up from Nanny's house. My husband called from office. He told me something that really shocked me to faint. He visited the children in the afternoon and noticed little May has a loose tooth in the upper front teeth. I totally couldn't accept this news. How could this happen? I brushed their teeth religiously every evening before bedtime. I weaned them off from drinking through milk bottle early this year. I gave them junk food only once in a while. I made them drink a lot of fluid whenever I was around. My mind totally went blank and I hurriedly went to nanny's house to check on her.
I kept questioned the nanny for what could have caused her tooth loose. Did she knock it on something? The nanny couldn't give me an explanation, so as my cheeky 4 years old. I kept thinking for it over and over. I went googling for the possibility to have loose tooth before 5 years old. I felt a little bit better and comfort when I found a picture of Shiloh and Pax from this link here. Shiloh lost her front tooth when she was only 3.
According to my searching in Baby Center on loose tooth. There is impossible for a child to lose her tooth before 5 years old. If it is happened, it mostly due to bad dental hygiene or accidence. The accidence can be knocked or pulled.
I actually gave her a good scolding and pro-long nagging. I reprimanded her to brush her teeth day and night thoroughly with a small amount of adult tooth paste, Darlie. I also forbid her from having any junk food like sweets and chocolate at this moment. The loose tooth is still there and is definitely paging for a tooth fairy soon.

Do you happen to see any child with a loose tooth at 4 years old?

My children extra activities

April has attended the UCMas Mental Arithmetic and May has attended the I-Math course a year ago. April participated in 3 competitions so far. Though she didn't win big, she won a small token of participation every time.
Little May enjoyed her I-Math very much. She get to learn while playing with colourful blocks, strings, cubes and etc. She already told me that she wants to complete the 6 levels of I-Math, and she doesn't want to proceed to UCmas Mental Arithmetic like her jie jie. I respect her decision.
April has joined the Art class since she was 4, and she still has a lot of passion in Art now. I can see her improving a lot in her art work, and it is more significant than her performance in UCMas Mental Arithmetic. May be she uses her right brain more than her left brain.
Actually, April is a careful and slow motion people, and she likes to do thing slow and steady. That is why she can do better in painting and drawing than mathematics, because mathematics need to have speedy and accuracy calculations.
Little May is totally different from her sister. She has less patience. She does her painting carelessly. In addition, she can get work done faster than her sister.

They are also attending the Buddisht Namo Amitabha and Di Zi Gui class on the weekend. After their final exam in October, I will also enrol April in the swimming course.

Other than their study in kindergarten, I occupy them with an activity for mental, an activity for Art, an activity for religion, and soon an activity for physical fitness. I think they have more than enough activities, and there is no more slot for music and dance.

Lunch after photo shooting

After we had done with April's graduation photo shooting, we went for lunch at 'Restoran Aun Loke'. The 'taukeh' has to thank Hayley for hard selling its curry fish head in her blog.
When I took out my Nokia 5800 to snap picture, the 'taukeh soh' was so happy. She even said to me, "Take la! Take more nice pictures. A lot of people also took picture of my dishes one.". In my heart, I think must be Hayley and her gang, who else?
Starter was pineapple, cucumber, onion and chilly.
Crispy meat roll (Bak Kian in hokkien).
Clay pot bean curd and mixed vegetable.
Salty grilled chicken (Yim Guk Kai in Cantonese).
Hayley said this is the best in town curry fish head. Honestly speaking, it is hard to find very nice curry fish head in my place, so this Aun Loke Curry Fish Head can consider not bad. The best curry fish head that I have ever tried is at Bercham, Ipoh, but I forgot the restaurant name. Any one from Ipoh know this?
