Astro XTY camp 15 Oct 2011

I needed to work on last Saturday, my husband brought his two princesses to April's school for the Astro XTY Camp. I saw them going off happily, but when they came back, April showed me sour face and my husband showed me dark face.
After registered, they got seated and waited for the event to start. April was all smiling in the beginning.
The 3 main characters from Astro XTY appeared on stage. They were Guitar Ge Ge, Melody Jie Jie and DaYang.
May was too shy to join in the crowd. Instead, she went to have fun in some simple Science activity at the booth.
Meanwhile, the 3 hosts came down from the stage to get closer with the children. They chose some students to go up to the stage to play games together.

This was the part that make my daughter sad and my husband annoyed. The hosts told the children to put up their hands, then they would take those the fastest who put up their hands to the stage. April put up her hands from the first game till the last game, no one noticed her. She was almost breaking out in tears when all the games were over. A friend of mine also commented the same thing that her son was very disappointed for not being able to take part in the games. Since they registered the children and gave them a number to stick on their shirts, they should use the lucky draw method to call out the numbers. I think this method of choosing the participants is fairer, and this can eliminate bad remarks made by parents.
April was in total bad mood. Before leaving, she was pushed by her papa to take a picture with the three hosts, as I requested him to take some pictures for me to share in my blog.
Being a demure girl, April always at the lose side when she has to compete for attention in a big group.

  6. Sigh... there are just too many kids there so the chances to get chosen is not very high. At least April was brave and sporting enough to raise her hand. I think my Chloe will probably just sit at a corner and observe (or she might not be interested in such camps in the first place!). She is very timid and won't compete for attention like this, I know.

  7. well, with such a crowd it's actually not easily for the mc to spot the kids also.. sometimes it just have to be lucky to be picked to go on to the stage.. anyway, at least she has got the photos with the three hosts.. :)

  8. I know how April feels.. In fact we attended some events before and Yan yan also raised her hand till the end of the game and no one notice her or get her to go up the stage.. It was really big disappointed for the kids. We know they are too many kids there so it is good if they do like what you suggest here, lucky draw :)

  9. In any event, there are bound to be disappointment. Just train her to just enjoyed herself and have fun. That way she will not be disappointed in case things does not work our her way.
    just my thoughts.

  12. So sorry to hear that. That's the problem with this kind of participation..they can't handle the crowd. I can imagine how disappointed it was for April. Hope she will get more chances in the future. *cheer up April*

  13. Hi Sheoh Yan, it's a pity those people who threw this party do not understand children....or have no children of their own.
And yes, I think it was rather silly to get the fastest hands up to take part.

Where children are involved, everyone must be given a part or at least a present.
Here too there are parties for children, and everyone goes home with some kind of prize and.....a smile and excited stories to tell mummy.
You stay easy Sheoh Yan, and stay beautiful.
    Lee.

  16. I agree with Uncle Lee too...most probably the people in Astro's organizing committee do not really understand children's psychology and most probably don't have own children yet and so have organized it in such a way that disappoints a lot of children. But hey again, the good part about it is that children has to learn that this is life and got to learn to take rejection. Hope April has recovered from her disappointment and continue to stay positive in anything she does.

  17. So sorry to hear what happen. Hope April has better luck next time. Like what ChloeRuoyi said, at least she's such a brave girl for putting up her hands and eager to participate. If it's my girl, she won't do that because she's timid.

  18. Thanks everyone for your concerns and kind thoughts. April is a happy girl again.

Uncle Lee and Alice Phua, I couldn't help to agree more with you too. Thanks a lot for your kind thoughts.

  19. Sorry to hear that. I agreed with your method - lucky draw. Kids will get excited to join yet not being choose. Sure disappointed.

  20. Yes, I think your way of getting the participants by drawing the number is much fairer and the way they did it seems to be a little messy.
