I ordered and bought some books from Odonata(红蜻蜓) again. I have blogged about the books that I bought at the first time here.
This time, I bought 不速之客 The Visitor, 小铁盒 The Metal Box, 妈妈满分 Perfect Mother, 佳佳的秘密 Jia Jia's Secret and 大哥头与小妹头 My Best Neighbour . Among these 5 books, 不速之客 The Visitor and 妈妈满分 Perfect Mother are actually the young adult novels, that means for older kids.
3 illustration novels and 2 young adult novels. Not only April, I have also become the book worm lately. I have finished reading all these books.
April loves reading these illustration novels, because the stories are always very interesting.
She reads while the TV is showing commercial advertisement .
She reads while waiting for ordered food.
She reads while sitting on the throne. I forgot to snap a picture while she was on the throne.
To my surprise, she can comprehend those young adult novels as well.
This morning, when I dropped her to school, she said, "Mummy, Papa said I am 'Ulat Buku' ."
Then I said, "Do you know what it means?"
She said, "Or course, I have learnt 'Simpulan Bahasa', 'Ulat Buku' is 'Orang yang gemar membaca buku.'. "
That's right, I proud to say that I grow a book worm, and not an Ipad worm.

I am so happy that like you say you grow a book worm rather a Ipad worm,, you know dear,in this time of age, parents can be really tossed into loads of confusion, to give or not to give, to follow or not to follow,, others got Pads here phone there, how about my children.
ReplyDeleteI believe like you, sometimes just stick to the fundamentals,,, I regret that for Jovial I did not start him right but for Marvell, no prob at all, therefore keep up the good work ya
I hope my lil May will get influenced by her big sister, and love books too.
DeleteWhen i was young...er..(hahah only carabao's grow old) my mom was so strict...she won't let me play with my playmates unless i've finished reading the book with her. This sort of training helped me to love books and reading. YOu are doing a great job for your kids. Keep it up... stay blessed and beautiful
ReplyDelete_genskie_
Now, I know you love books too. Your mum has raised you well, Genskie.
DeleteYou have also started reading, good good ;)
ReplyDeleteI hardly read, but since pregnant, I picked up pregnancy materials to read already, hehe.
Forget to tell you. I read a lot while I was pregnancy. This habit sure can pass to your baby in your tummy. I suggest you read aloud to your prince now.
DeleteCorrect reading is good than Ipad worm...Nice Simpulan Bahasa. Now I'm also a reader to my son. He started reading gradually at room, living room and whereever we go. He even started to ask what is the meaning of the word. So in order to explain to him, I need to brush up some reading too. Hahaha
ReplyDeleteYou have moved in a right path. reading is always good and never too late to cultivate.
Deleteyou remind me that i have not been reading books for a long time already.. :D
ReplyDeleteIf you start to read books, you may have more things to blog.
Deletegood that your girls like to read.. rather than playing iPad..
ReplyDeleteerr, wait!! but you didn't buy them any iPad right?? haha.. so cannot validate that statement yet lah..
ReplyDeleteIn fact, I have promised them that if they get top in class again this year, I will buy them Ipad.
Deleteuntil they have a chance to play with iPad perhaps they will throw the books away already..
ReplyDeleteNow you scare the shit out of me. I may consider to withdraw my promise.
Deleteactually iPad not necessary not good lah, can install educational apps so that they can learn interactively..
ReplyDeleteAgree, but Ipad still have some negative side of it, but books that I chose do not have any.
DeleteHey Yan, this is really something to be admired... I love kids who read.. but unfortunately I dint instill this upon my 3 kids.. till today, they dont like to read any fiction books.. unlike me.. :)
ReplyDeleteOh! Claire loves reading too. In fact, I prefer watching TV than reading, but in order to set a good example to my girls. I start reading a lot.
DeleteI am always happy to see kids who love to read. One can gain so much knowledge through reading. You started reading to show a good example to your kiddies? Good job Mummy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Quay Po for you kind thoughts.
DeleteI love to see kids who happily reads without being forced :)
ReplyDeleteYes, no forcing is needed here. I need to ask her to stop reading when bedtime is here.
Deletegood for you!! and good for her!! Everyone of my kids are readers...they see me and my husband reading so much it is natural to them...plus I buy them books without any fight....keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteThanks Annmarie for your kind thoughts and sharing.

Deletewell done to your girls. reading books are way better than being on the computer or tv eh?
ReplyDeleteThere is still time for her to watch TV and computer, but more time is spent on reading.
DeleteI rather grow a book worm to any-Pad worm.
ReplyDeleteReading habit is good to instil from young. And everybody knows that!
Thanks for your kind thougths Yvonne.

ReplyDeleteGood to grow book worms. Sure her vocab will improve by reading a lot.
Her vocab has improved and also her thinking has become more mature.
Deletereally got 'ulat buku' as a simpulan bahasa? i never knew that! i should read more, i'm not a ulat buku yet!
ReplyDeleteYou must have read a lot of recipe books.
DeleteIt's really good that she likes reading them...I will try and order some for Ashley to read :)
ReplyDeleteSheoh Yan - I just ordered some books from Odanata! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that, they have new books almost every month.
DeleteYou are a good mummy, so many good books for them to read! Odanata books are good. I have read good reviews about it.
ReplyDeleteYou too. I can't make beautiful Bento like you.
DeleteGood job, Yan. It's good that April loves to read. I read a lot so it only comes naturally that Ian loves reading too, monkey see monkey do mah.. We just bought two bookshelves, one for myself and the other one for the boy, and placed it at the living hall. We spend most of our time in the living hall so in a way, it promotes more reading. He has 4 tiers of English books, one tier of Chinese books and only like 15 Malay books when we sorted his book collection by languages. Gotta get him more Malay books this coming holidays.. Hahaha...
ReplyDeleteEversince I let her read Odonata books, she is now very much into it.
DeleteThat's wonderful! I hope my kids will grow up with the love for reading too :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting, my gal also following odonata program! Your gals really make you proud!
ReplyDeleteThat's really good, Yan. Way to go! My girl is a bookworm too. I hope she will retain this habit forever. LOL. My boy is starting to appreciate books more too. Thanks to the influence of his sister and ahem me..:)
