Today is my 9th day of being a vegan. Surprisingly, I didn't miss any of my non vegetarian food in these 9 days. This was actually my 4th years of having vegetarian in conjunction of the 9th Emperor God's birthday. The first 3 years, I was a vegan on only the last three days, meaning, day 7, day 8 and day 9 in Chinese Lunar 9th month.
This year, I take the challenge of being a vegan for 9 days. Perhaps, next year I should go for 10 days vegan.
Luckily there is a vegetarian stall located on the route between my house and my office. So, it is so convenient for me to eat or take away my breakfast, my lunch and my dinner there, and the food there is very nice. The following pictures tell you what I ate in the past 8 days and also today.
Mee soup RM3.
Mee rebus RM3.
Mee curry RM3.
Economy rice RM4.
On Sunday, I cooked myself and my girls the vegetarian porridge. In fact, I am the only person following vegan diet in my family.
I used pumpkin, potatoes, peanuts, carrot, and corn. I shredded carrot, potatoes and pumpkin before boiling it together with rice.
I believe not many people would take this type of porridge. Apparently my girls like it and we can take this for lunch and dinner without any complain too.

Your vegan meals look yummy..the porridge are very nutritious and healthy.
ReplyDeletenow as a vegan no longer that bad la.. can have many varieties of food.. but I know those who practise 9th Emperor vegan very strict one.. my grandma use to come to my house and vegan together with my mum.. and they even have to separate all the dishes, cups and all!!
ReplyDeleteHungry...
ReplyDeleteSo cheap lah your meals Yan.
I want that mee rebus too!
hey, those are vegetarian lah, you can eat they are halal.. have you actually tried chinese vegetarian cookings Lina??
DeleteVery cheap in Taiping. Here is very very expensive. So I rather cook it than having outside.
ReplyDeleteAwww they look so yummy... please teach us some of your vegan recipes :)
ReplyDeleteahh..so good of you to observe 9 days of vegetarian diet during the Nine Emperor God Festival. We just went back to Ipoh for this festival on Sunday and gobbled lots of those "sau toh" and "tortoise buns" :)
ReplyDeleteYan, bravo! I am still the same, vegan on the last 3 days.
ReplyDeleteHmm not sure if I can take the challenge on being vegan for 10 days.. Just worry that I'd accidentally eat non vegan food... haha :D
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I miss the Aulong's mee rebus!!
ReplyDeleteNice try on the vege porridge ;)
I don't go vegan during this festival, but it's nice to eat vegetarian food when I followed you for lunch :D
ReplyDeleteIt makes me feel slimmer (psychologically, haha!) due to the meatless diet.
But the actual fact is, I think I gained extra KG due to the excessive munching of the kuih muih sold at the same stall during tea time. Because I know when the festival is over, I'll need to wait for another year to savour such delicious vegan food.
Deletehahaha, actually sometimes we have a wrong perspective that eating vegetarian is healthier.. it really depends on how the vegetarian dishes are cooked.. some use more oil and additives to enhance the flavor, and those "fake" vegetarian meat are even more unhealthy than real ones..
DeleteThey all look soooo good! This kind of vegan diet, I wouldn't mind...not if I have to eat nothing but vegetables for 9 days!
ReplyDeleteyalor, all these are just nice and i wouldn't mind having them for 9 days.. they look so "non vegetarian" like what we usually have..
DeleteI like mee rebus the most! The portion is huge for RM3, very cheap!
ReplyDeleteMost people would comment that vegan food is quite expensive, but I find the price is reasonable~
Your vegetable-based porridge is well presented. I like the orange-y color, adapting from carrot and pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteAnd you added peanuts, not a bad idea. I've never thought of cooking porridge with nuts. Usually will roast the nuts and sprinkle some salt to go with plain porridge :)
Well done Yannie! I can see white lights radiating out from this blog! It must be your AURA!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe vegan food looks delicious and should be easy & enjoyable for you. I think you are the only blogger too that ate for 9 days!
ReplyDeleteGood blessings will shine on you always. Next year if you try 10 days, maybe you can go into trance and run across the fire! Why not?
ReplyDeleteI will eat any type of porridge! I love them!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are so colourful! Must be the red and orange plates lah. That means next time you bake something, must use shocking pink or luminous green plates! That would be lovely food presentation...
ReplyDeleteyes, those noodles look so nice lah, and the economy rice is just so my cup of tea.. i will most probably choose the same dishes also.. especially the fried egg with tomato sauce, so yummy lah!!
Deleteyoh, really dedicated lah.. next time slowly increase the number of days for the whole 9th month in the lunar calendar lah.. hahaha, that would really be a big challenge right?? :p
ReplyDeleteat least there is a vegetarian stall there, and i shall say you are lucky lor.. if not you have to cook yourself, and that would probably mess up your plan also lah..
Deleteand not bad at all lah the food they sell.. looks 似模似樣 lor, somemore very cheap also.. like that i think i also no problem being a vegetarian for 9 days, haha!! everyday have different thing from this stall can already..
Deletethis morning i went to the temple in Ampang to pray, today is the last day mah.. at first i so worried the place is very crowded and smoke everywhere.. luckily it wasn't and i was able to quickly pray and leave..
ReplyDeleteand before leaving, just drop by nearby the place to have 西刀魚旦粉, haha!! very nice woh, i like their 魚片 than their 魚旦 actually..
Deletecome to think of it, i think very difficult for me to be a vegetarian lah.. i so like to eat meat, one two meals maybe ok for me lah, but then the whole 9 days.. better back off, hahaha!!
Deletewah 9 days already and you can still tahan. I don't think I will last two days with vegan straight.
ReplyDeleteAll the food looks good and I love eating porridge a lot. I remember the first time I cooked porridge, teo chew style with some side dishes, my boy was so upset. He cried and wouldn't touch the bowl of porridge. Haiz and that explains why I hardly cook porridge at home.
ReplyDeleteAll food looks really good, no wonder you do not miss the non vegetarian foods. The porridge looks like what my boy is having periodically, minus the peanuts.
ReplyDeleteNice vege meal!
ReplyDeleteOh my fav curry mee & mee rebus. Porridge looks yummy guess there are many style in cooking porridge.
ReplyDeleteI love all your vegan meals and I have been surviving many years without meat (but I eat fish). I like your style of porridge and I do cook something similar for my family too... sweet and tasty!
ReplyDeleteI love your porridge. I can actually be a vegetarian too but I haven't tried before for so many days..
ReplyDeleteThe porridge looks yummy..
ReplyDeletei was rubbing my eyes. Thought my four eye juling

Deletedies.....saw your jagung..now baru remembered got jagung in the fridge lupa cook
DeleteI tried giving my girls pumpkin porridge and at the end I got to telan whole pot myself...
ReplyDeleteHi Sheoh, the vegetarian food look cheap and delicious especially the mee curry.
ReplyDeleteYour porridge look delicious too, good for diet. ;)
Have a nice week ahead.
I wish my gals are as obedient and good as yours and would eat the same porridge for lunch and dinner. Your porridge looks wholesome.
ReplyDeletenowadays there are a lot of nice vegetarian food, so many choices. It also makes it easier for people who goes vegetarian instead of sticking to the plain veggies all the time :) I guess now you are feeling so much lighter!
