After your auntie visit

I am a once or twice a year blood donor. I can't donate my blood as frequent as every 3 months, because I need to adjourn whenever my big auntie visit me on monthly basis.

I went to donate my blood last two week, this was my first time this year.

As usual, I was examined and asked specific questions about my medical history to make sure that donating blood is not hazardous to my health. Then, I proceeded to the counter to have my blood pressure evaluated. After that, my haemoglobin level was tested. When I thought that everything would be alright like previous rounds. I was rejected and was told to go home. Sobs...........

Apparently, my haemoglobin was below the accepted level. I wasn't eligible to donate my blood this time, as the loss of blood may make me anemic. T____T.

Hence, I decide to take more nutrient every month after my big auntie left.

Sunday, I cooked the easy Eight Treasure Soup (八珍汤) with chicken. I have to cook this 8 treasure soup and the 10 whole nourishing soup (十全大补汤) every month to rejuvenate my body after menses. I really hope it helps.
I also cooked brown rice with some shredded sweet potatoes to increase the Fiber intake for the whole family.

By the way, 8 treasure soup  isn't only good for female, it is suitable for all sexes, especially if you are anemic, or suffering from faint spell and poor appetite.

    1. I used to boil Bat Zhen soup for letchumy many years ago but she hated the awful taste and it made her head giddy instead. Now I import the Young Oils from US and apply on her feet. Her whole body floats to heavens.

    2. I used to donate blood often for the past many years until wife showed me articles of Chinese Medicine that said donating blood will harm the body's chi. In the end, I only donated when someone needs A+ blood for open heart operations which meant I had to wait outside the operating theatre with other donors 2 hours before surgery. These patients would need fresh blood like Dracula to have successful by pass.

Now I discovered something more disturbing. My father has dementia and my close friends have terrible bad memory in their brains. I realised they all have commonly always boasted their little red booklet for donating blood hundreds of times!!!! Does this ring the bell??

    3. I need to ask some experts on this matter otherwise I will definitely continue to donate blood. It helps other lives, why not?

    4. Donate blood is for ladies only? Hihihi....

We ladies "donate" approximate a cup of blood monthly and usually I fail the hemoglobin test during blood donation. Out of 4 times, I only succeed once.

    5. Annay is A+? Ah Hua is AB+ and is low in demand because it's not suitable for A, B and O blood type. But AB blood type can accept all sort of other type :)

  6. I used to boil 8Zhan for myself but each time after consuming it, my body would feel very hot. One time, I even had fever after consuming 8Zhan! I guess it's too heaty for my already very warm body. I feel faintish all the time and I have low blood pressure as well.

    1. May be I limit to drink this soup once every month. That will be good enough, not too many times, especially the weather is hot now. Taking this soup is very torturing in hot weather.

  8. actually it's good to donate blood, i mean in whatever way lah, the 3-monthly thing or the monthly thing.. with more blood "donated" then you will have more new and fresh blood produced, it's rather a healthy act..

  9. Mak Yannie no doubt is a very health conscious person I have known.. she takes her health (of course also her look) seriously, and i think it's good.. life is too unpredictable, we may not know what's happening next minute.. so it's better that we have a solid base to help us fight through mayhem of life.. :)

  16. Hi Yan,

You are such a kind person being a blood donor. I'm hopeless with my iron level too. Unlike you, I'm not big fan of nourishing soups and so I try to stay well with extra iron supplement.

  19. Why pieces of chicken meat fell into your kopi 'o' kah? haha. Wonder those suffering from thalassemia can drink this kopi 'o' or not? Very likely the iron content must be quite high. With a haemoglobin count of 107g/L Bananaz's blood sure love to swim & float on top. Looks like my blood can never have the chance to learn diving to the bottom, therefore in any blood donation can never pass this test.
