After your auntie visit

12:30 Yannie 49 Comments

I am a once or twice a year blood donor. I can't donate my blood as frequent as every 3 months, because I need to adjourn whenever my big auntie visit me on monthly basis.

I went to donate my blood last two week, this was my first time this year.

As usual, I was examined and asked specific questions about my medical history to make sure that donating blood is not hazardous to my health. Then, I proceeded to the counter to have my blood pressure evaluated. After that, my haemoglobin level was tested. When I thought that everything would be alright like previous rounds. I was rejected and was told to go home. Sobs...........

Apparently, my haemoglobin was below the accepted level. I wasn't eligible to donate my blood this time, as the loss of blood may make me anemic. T____T.

Hence, I decide to take more nutrient every month after my big auntie left.

Sunday, I cooked the easy Eight Treasure Soup (八珍汤) with chicken. I have to cook this 8 treasure soup and the 10 whole nourishing soup (十全大补汤) every month to rejuvenate my body after menses. I really hope it helps.
I also cooked brown rice with some shredded sweet potatoes to increase the Fiber intake for the whole family.

By the way, 8 treasure soup  isn't only good for female, it is suitable for all sexes, especially if you are anemic, or suffering from faint spell and poor appetite.

May is 7 today

12:30 Yannie 25 Comments

May is sweet.
May is easy going.
May laughs easily and spontaneously.
May is cheeky.
May loves reading.

Today is her birthday. We celebrated on Last Friday, because her papa was busy on the weekend.

We took her for dinner at Sushi King, then went for an animation movie, Epic.

Back at home, we had her Birthday cake as our supper. She was eyeing on the Swan sunglasses at the mall. I just got it for her as her Birthday present. She said that she can dance Gangnam Style better now.

Her big sister presented her present. She was so delighted opening her present while her jie jie helped her to cut the rest of the cake.

April bought May the Rilakkuma pencil case. She wants to use it in the next semester.

I love May running to me and hugging me from behind. I like when she said that she misses me a lot.

"No matter how old you are, to me you always my little May. Have a brilliant Birthday."

I married him on Wesak Day

12:48 Yannie 34 Comments

I married him on Wesak Day in year 2002.

Since then, I know that I have found the right one.

Because....
he cooks us hearty soups on weekends when he doesn't need to work. His daughters said that their papa's soup tastes even better their grandma's one. I have to agree on them.

whenever I told him that I wanted to lose some weight, he would buy me Fiber drink or other health food without me asking  him to do so. Most the time, these healthy drinks tasted really awful, and I would ask him not to buy again.

in some evenings, when I rested my two legs on couch or lazed on my bed, he would bring me fruits that he had cut into cubes and chilled them earlier in fridge. May be you would say that this is just an easy job. To me, these are the best ever snack on scorching hot days, I  will be delighted like a small girl each time he serves me these.

when my PIL were away for holiday, we came home and saw him had laid these dishes on the dining table.  We savoured everything empty like hungry ghosts. During my PIL's a week holiday, he every day cooked us different food, from  pasta, fried rice to dishes and rice. All tasted fantastic. How not to praise him for being such a caring man?

I have told my daughters umpteen times, benchmarking their papa as their future ideal man. I hope that my daughters will find a guy like their father in future.

To my dear, thanks for everything.

Ironing on weekends

11:33 Yannie 34 Comments

I only do my ironing on weekends. Unless I am out of town on weekends, otherwise I will do ironing once a week only either on Saturday or Sunday.

I need to iron my working uniforms and my girls' school uniforms. Luckily I don't need to iron my husband's working uniforms. He wears company T-Shirt to work. May be he doesn't want me to iron so many clothes, that is why he wearing company T-Shirt everyday. Muacks!

Altogether I need to iron at least 20 pieces at one go.
Last Sunday, I was home alone doing ironing from 8.10pm to 9.30pm. Do I consider fast in my ironing job?
Under this scorching hot weather, I sweat like I have just done my 6km/h jog when I have done with the ironing. I think I burned quite a lot of calories by standing for more than an hour and moving my right arm on the ironing board.

Are you folks also an Iron Man or Iron Lady on weekends?

Smell the roses

14:31 Yannie 33 Comments

Exam was over, school break is started soon. Yippie!

The girls have got back some of their exam papers. They are scoring fairy good, though there are still 1 or 2 papers to be collected back today.

We can temporary stop to smell roses until the next semester starts. Well, I let the girls watch a bit more of TV, play a bit of games and toys, read more books, do more drawings, practise more piano, swim more and train more in table tennis.
The night after their last paper. The girls and their nursery members.

They claim themselves as the nursery teachers. They will read, tell stories and read to the nursery.

These were the four newly added nursery members. Hello Kitty from McD.

School is out this Friday for 2 weeks. We plan to go for a short getaway again. Perhaps, catch one or two animation movies during the school break.

Sofia The First: Once Upon a Princess

14:30 Yannie 1 Comments

Us and my princesses got the very first e-invite to the screening of Disney Junior's latest television movie SOFIA the First: ONCE UPON A PRINCESS. Date, time and venue were all stated as the below picture. We were overjoyed, but when I knew my princesses had to sit for their mid-term exam on 14 May, we were hesitated whether we should accept the invitation. After discussing in more details at the family meeting, we decided to go to KL and my princesses promised to bring along their books to study at the hotel.

Unfortunately the RSVP's seats were filled up extremely quickly in the two days of our dilemma. My princesses were extremely disappointed.

Since we missed the special screening of Disney Junior's latest television movie SOFIA the First: ONCE UPON A PRINCESS on May 11 2013, 1030AM at GSC, The Gardens, Mid Valley City, the organiser sent me another e-invite on movie review contest.

I quickly informed my princesses on the details of the premier screening, they too wrote down the date and time on their whiteboard "SUNDAY, MAY 19 at 11am on Disney Channel(ASTRO Channel 615) and MONDAY, MAY 27 at 1pm on Disney Junior(ASTRO Channel 613)".

They have finally watched it yesterday. They enjoy the movie to the bits. They don't mind to watch this movie special premiering again and again on the TV. They have bugged me to go to the ASTRO TV Guide and check at all this special screening date and time in this month.

The movie  introduces Sofia, an average girl whose life suddenly transforms when her mother marries the king  and she becomes a princess, Sofia the First. The movie is very interesting when Disney's Cinderella makes special appearance to offer Sofia some words of wisdom - princess to princess.

Sofia's royal adventure begins as she prepares to move into the palace with her mom, starting a new family wit her step-father, King Rolland II, and step-siblings, Amber and James. Helping Sofia in her journey are the three headmistresses of Royal Prep Academy - Fauna, Flora and Merryweather. If you are following all the Disney's Princesses stories, you will find these names familiar. These three are Sleeping Beauty, Aurora's Fairy God Mothers.

I personally find Sofia is as kind hearted as Snow White, as she makes friends with woodland creatures, like birds and rabbits. She too, helped by royal steward, Baileywick.

The stories of  "Sofia the First" communicate positive messages and life lessons that are applicable  to young children.  Sofia displays honestly, loyalty, courage, independence, compassion and grace. Sofia remains a relatable peer-to-peer princess who is experiencing many of the same social situations as young viewers at home including learning how to fit in, making new friends and mastering new skills.

Those who have watched this movie screening yesterday, I am sure you are interested to know when  "Sofia the First" TV series will premier. It is in July 2013. Please stay tuned.

Disney Channel and Disney Junior will launch the DisneyJunior-Asia.com/Sofia website featuring a fully immersive royal experience. Kids can get creative, creating and personalizing their own prince or princess avatars with the Royal Me game, dressing up Sofia's room or just having fun with the many activity pages and videos available on the site.

Cupcakes for Teacher's Day

12:30 Yannie 35 Comments

I have been practising making these two types of butter cakes months ago.

1. Zebra butter cake.
Ingredients :
( A )125g butter
100g castor sugar
100g eggs (about 2)
125g self raising flour

 5g salt
 60ml milk
(B)

3g cocoa powder

Method :
1. Beat butter and sugar till white and fluffy.
2. Add in egg one at a time and beat till well combined after each addition.
3. Fold in sifted flour,  milk and salt, alternately until well mixed.
4. Separate batter into two portions. In one portion of the batter, add in the cocoa powder and mix well.
5. Put 1 tbsp of plain batter into the center of the pan and let it spread slightly on its own. Put 1 tbsp of chocolate batter in the center of the plain. It will push out the other batter and, as it sits for a moment, will also spread itself. Alternating spoonfuls of the two batters, repeat the technique until all the batter has been used up.
6. Bake at pre-heated oven at 160 degree for 25 mins or until skewer comes out clean.

 I used a 9 inches pan.

In fact this was my second attempt in  baking Zebra butter cake.

3rd attempt I baked Zebra butter in cups.
Though it was looked good, but it tasted yummy.
Yesterday, I baked again and this time I baked for my girls' teachers. I baked 9 Zebra cupcakes.
2. Orange butter cake.
125g butter
100g sugar
2 eggs (whole)

50ml orange juice
2 tsps grated orange rind
1/2 tbsp "sunquick" orange nectar
125g self raising flour

Method:
~ Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
~ Add in eggs one at a time, then add in orange juice, rind and nectar.
~ Fold in flour, pour into prepared liner and bake at 155'C for 25 minutes.

My first attempt in baking orange butter cakes.
My second attempt one day before Mother's Day.

I personally love the orange aroma from the cake. I really like this recipe.
Yesterday, I baked Orange butter cupcakes again. I sprinkled a bit of toasted almond nuts, Chia seeds and cherry on top.

I packed two cupcakes into a gift pack, decorated with a red ribbon and stick the girls' handwritten greeting note on it. Tadaa..... the Teacher's Day gifts.
During Monday assembly, the girls were told that the Teacher's Day celebration is on this Friday, because they have exam until Thursday. Yesterday, the students were informed again that they will celebrate Teacher's Day on Thursday (which is today) after their last paper at break time.  Thank Goodness that I had got all ingredients and things ready. I cancelled my night swim and baked two trays of cupcakes last night. Later at noon, I have to deliver 9 gift packs to their school. April wants to give to 8 teachers, including the headmaster and the assistant headmasters. May only wants to give to her form teacher.

Here, I wish all teachers "Happy Teacher's Day."

Today is 13 May. This is the first post in May.
The first week of May, I was too excited to blog.
The second week of May, I was too disappointed to blog.

5th May, waking up happily and going to cast our votes together at the walking distance polling station.

6th May, snapping this black colour picture by focusing the camera at the window curtain in my total darkness bedroom.

10th May, April and May brought these two oranges back home from school. Telling me that these were the Mother's Day gifts that prepared by the school.

11th May, having orange butter cup cakes as my breakfast. Oranges were the one given to me by April and May.

12th May, April and May spent RM4 to buy me this leopard printed purse for my phone as my Mother's Day gift.

Till then, I hope I can come out with a longer post next time.
