I woke up rather early on last Sunday for the charity run that I mentioned in my earlier post. I must thank my husband for preparing 3 half boiled eggs and a cup of Milo as my breakie before sending me off to the event. He is always so supportive.

I started by running a little faster. I ran passing the two ladies who started off in front of me and remained as the first throughout the 7KM run.

I don't want to deny that I am very happy to bag the champion in this category of this run, as I didn't have much confident prior to the run. 

It was the women open category but the top 5 were almost all with the age which qualified for veterans. 
I feel so much happier than winning the champion in Women Veteran 10KM in KOBL2017, because this was my first race on flat road and I didn't expect to bag any prize in the beginning.

My next race is on 1st July and it is our first night run in the town.

Charity run 2017

Tomorrow morning I have a run event. It is also sponsored by my company to join a charity school for a local high school. I take part in 7KM women open, as I am only qualified for this category this time.

I don't have much confident as it is the women open and it is only 7KM tar road. I have better endurance than speed in running. A distance of more than 10KM will benefit me more.  Well, I will take it as a trial run for my 8KM night run event in July.

Nevertheless, I will do my very best, as I have put in lots of hard work in training recently.

I just wish that I will enjoy my run and retain my own record. So far, I complete my 7KM in 42 minutes (my pace is 10 kilometers per hour). That is the best I can do for now.

Today, I will go and run 7KM at the actual track as my last round of training for tomorrow run.

Mother's day

Tomorrow is Mother's day. We are going for a simple celebration this evening. We plan to go to a cafe which has Mother's day promotion and live band singer. I am kind of looking forward to the outing.

I am now having an 11 years old child and a 13 years old teenager. They are now so much different than when they were young.

Let me share a few of the differences here.

Case 1: Bedtime, 
Girls: Mummy, tonight can I sleep with you? So long I didn't sleep in your room.
Mom: No, sorry. Please sleep in your own room.
(Because mummy needs some me time)

Mom: Girls, can mummy sleep with you? So long I didn't sleep in your room.
Girls: No mummy, you are too big to share my bed.
(Apparently, mummy didn't grow any bigger, but they are the one growing a lot.)

Case 2: What to wear?
Girls: Mummy, please tell me what I should wear for the outing.
(Girls want mummy to decide what they should wear)

Mom: Girls, please tell me what mummy should wear for the outing
(Mummy is seeking opinion and advice from the girls on what to wear now)

Time flies, they are growing up really fast. One thing for sure and it would never change. They are my priority in my life.

Happy Get-together

I enjoy my run and work out in the gym. I also like to go hiking with a few friends on weekends, However, every Tuesday and Thursday, I will feel even more excited, as I am looking forwards to join the Zumba lesson in the evening. I am very happy whenever I am in the class with my instructor and other Zumba members. Though I know that I don't burn that much of calories when comparing to run 8KM on the treadmill and also hike 10KM at Bukit Larut. It is the least  strenuous exercise for me in a week. May be because of the music, the move, the friendly atmosphere and the people. I just love going there.

I am checking at my pictures folders, and noticing that I have been to a few gatherings with my Zumba buddies lately. We are qualified to be in the veteran category. We are all having a  different marital status. There are married, single, working mom, housewife, grandmother, divorcee, and widow. We share the laughter, fun, joy and happiness when we are together.

Now you all know why all aunties going for exercise, but sill can't lose much weight. It is all because of these gatherings. We sweat and we work out so hard every day, but when going for gatherings, we feast ourselves with scrumptious food. How on earth we can lose weight like that?

Joke aside, we enjoy the outing together actually. Occasionally we also have to let ourselves to enjoy life and be happy, no?

My personal training route planner

As I mentioned in my earlier post that I am going for my first road race this July, it is so nice of my husband that he has started to plan a training route for me. He is always very supportive and caring.

He tried to use google map to plan according to the distance that I am going to run. He then explained to me on the direction from where I need to start, when I need to go through and where I need to finish. I then tried to act as innocent as I always used to be and I asked for more landmarks that a google map can provide. 

This morning, it is my first training on the route he designed, and I wake up to see this on the white board. 

It is so sweet of him, right? He never complained about my busy and active lifestyle, and he is encouraging me in whatever I love to do. Thanks dear. Love you. 

It has been 3 continuous weeks that I only eat a cup of ten grains rice that I only cook with pumpkins and purple sweet potatoes as my breakfast. I lose 1.5kg already. A lighter body can allow me to run faster, no?


My overall in KOBL2017

Today I am going to update about my race in Toyo Tires King of Bukit Larut (KOBL) 2017 on 9 April 2017. I am happy to be the champion in Women Veteran 10KM, the 4th place in gender overall and the 40th place in 10KM overall. My timing is 1 hour and 6 minutes 15 seconds. Comparing to KOBL 2015, I was actually the 3rd in women open 10KM. So, I would say that I didn’t retain my previous race position. If it did not have the women veteran category this year, I would come back with just the finisher medal. Thanks to Toyo Tires for the sponsor.

A few days after the race, I didn't rest for long. I again sign up myself for another race on 1 July. That is the first night run my town. I sign up and I pay my own money (very rare case) for the night run, simply because it is at night and I don’t need to wake up early in for the early hour flag off.

I always train myself in the evening in the gym for my 8KM run. So happen this night run has women veteran 8KM race. Therefore, I have to start training harder from now on until 1 July.


Why my blog suddenly turns into a running blog? I just want to update about my activity recently. Well, I have a reason to stay active, I have a mission to complete and I have a goal to achieve. Ain’t this a happy life? As long as you are doing what you enjoy, you will be happy, right?

Other than this, I actually kind of busy at work. My project seems never-ending. I work very hard during office hours too. I do get pressure and stress in the office. Thank goodness that I know how to keep calm and release my tension elsewhere.

Preparation for KOBL 2017

I have been taken 10 grains rice with only purple sweet potatoes as my breakfast for the past 1 week. This breakfast can provide me enough energy as it is high carbs. My last training was on Tuesday. It took me 1 hour and 40 minutes to run uphill and downhill without stopping. It ain't my record two years ago. My record is 1 hour and 24 minutes. 

I have got my race kits. Due to late submitted name list from my company. Our bibs were all handwritten. Others were printed so nicely. By the way, my company is actually the main sponsor of the event, and 21 of us are sponsored by the company to run tomorrow. 

Other than taking the 10 grains rice, I have done less running this week after the Tuesday training at the actual trail. I only attended the two times Zumba lessons as usual. Tonight, I am going for a swim and sauna, then sleep early and wake up early for the event.

Hopefully, I have all the strength to run uphill 5KM and downhill 5KM. By the way, I am running in women veteran 10KM this year. Unlike the KOBL 2015, I was in woman open 10KM category.
I am so excited for the tomorrow race. The most important I must have a good sleep tonight. 


My training on hill running

The exam was over. Admittedly I was not doing as great as I wanted myself to do. All blame to not study hard enough. Out 50 questions, I already knew that I had answered 10 incorrect. So, no hope to get distinction, just hope a B instead. Cry!

Now I have to prepare for my 10 KM run at KOBL. 5 KM run uphill, and take the u-turn to run downhill for another 5KM. So far, I had tried running at the actual track for 5 times. I had finally made it yesterday to run uphill for the complete 5KM without stopping to walk for a single step, although I still couldn’t achieve the timing record that I possessed in 2015. My strategy is actually running with smaller step and slower pace in the beginning. This will sustain my energy for longer duration.  

When running up a hill, we’ve got to do extra work to overcome gravity. This requires the body to recruit more muscles in the legs to overcome the force of gravity and carry us up the slope.
When running down a hill, we are allowed a “free” increase in running speed (since gravity is giving back all the energy we spent going up the hill.) We generally want to take advantage of this, especially when we are racing.

I feel tremendously good after each training, because my tight, my pelvis and my calf muscles are sore. I never have all this fun when running on treadmills. Therefore I will still go running at Bukit Larut, even after the race.

Some mental cues like “stand tall, chest up, head straight, eyes look in front”, “drive the hips”,  and “lean and go” are great for hill running.

I feel so excited and look forwards to the race on 9 April 2017. 


Exam and Race

As you can see the picture that I share here. This training course kept me occupy from July 2016 till now. The exam is set on this coming Friday. On the same day, we need to submit an assignment too, and the questions are stated as in the white sheet.

I guess after this Friday, I shall have more time to blog and visit your blogs than the past 8 months. So, from today until next Thursday, I shall spend more time to study like April and May always do.

Besides, I have again signed up for the King of Bukit Larut 2017 (KOBL 2017). I have started to run at the actual track for the distance that I have registered myself. Can Yannie retain the position as in KOBL 2015? Yannie tries. Wish me luck, folks! I wrote about KOBL 2015 at here and here.

It is amazing that I enjoy learning new things, improving myself and pursuing my passions. I live my life to its fullest as I always know that life is too short.

I just saved the above picture from my Zumba friend's FB. I joined my Zumba members attending the Chap Goh Meh dinner on the date as printed on the backdrop.  I was pushed to go on stage. Serious! I was dragged by others. I finally couldn't refuse the lady singer's multiple requests for dancing on stage with her.

After the dance, all my buddies came hugging me and said things like...
1. I am proud of you.
2. Proud to be your friend.
3. You are so gutsy.
4. You are very good.
5. Salute you! Yan.
6. You look so cool and you are not having stage fright at all.
7. You are admirable!
8. You handle yourself very well on stage.
9. You got class and manage to dance gracefully.
10. You are sporting.
11. I was so surprised and you were so bold.
12. No worry, you didn't embarrass yourself at all.  Many can dance well, but you are the only one have the courage to go up.

Many shared their thoughts and words in our chat group telling me that they enjoyed watching my unplanned performance. Kakakaka!

I just replied them, "All blame to the alcohol!"  It was rare, therefore I still think that it was not my normal self that evening. In fact, I let my hair down to have beers, laughters, joy and fun with friends on occasions.

Today is my birthday. I foresee no celebration, as hubby is taking the girls for ping pong tournament and they shall put up a night in the hotel. I can't follow them this trip, as I need to attend my last 2 days training of  Personal Development course. This course is actually keeping me occupied for the past 8 months and this is the reason I am MIA from blogsphere. After the final exam in mid March, I am sure back to active again in blogsphere.

Despite no celebration, I know I am still happy as I am blessed with a supportive and caring hubby, two wonderful daughters whom never fail to amaze me. I am loved by a bunch of positive and fantastic family and friends. I have a stable job and I am persistent in keeping myself fit. My ultimate goal in my life is having a peace of mind.

No matter what I do, I always tell myself that to make peace with my mind. This has given me wisdom, strength, and calmness to remain happy always.

I will continue to love myself, love my daughters, love my husband and love those who love me.
