Sweet dessert soup again (糖水)

15:31 Yannie 5 Comments

I am a dessert person. Whenever I go for the buffet, the first thing I check it must the dessert corner. I have sweet tooth.

I cook dessert for myself almost every weekend too. When I checked the pictures in the dessert folder, I still have some more never been posted here.
Last year, April requested me to cook a few types of glutinous rice balls when she saw a few cute recipes in FB during the winter solstice festival.  This one was white and green color rice balls with mangoes in HL milk. It can be served cold and warm. It tastes good by adding a little bit sugar or condensed milk in it. This picture got me many "LIKE" when I posted on my FB wall.

These are pumpkin glutinous rice balls in homemade soy milk, which I bought from the hawker in the night market. I personally find this one tasted better than the one in HL milk.

These were glutinous rice balls in red bean soup. I have cooked this before. I previously blogged about this dessert here too.

The ingredients of this dessert are pumpkin, white fungus, red dates, hard boiled eggs and rock sugar.
I just love pumpkin a lot.

This dessert has ingredients of dried longan, red dates, white fungus, and ”桃胶“ (I can't find the English term of this brown color fruit/plant that grows on trees).

I cook dessert often, as it is not cheap to buy outside and the taste is always too sweet for my liking.

My first night run

12:57 Yannie 9 Comments

As I mentioned in my earlier entry here that I went for a night run, the first run at night for myself, April and my town.

It was my working day and I worked from 8am to 5:30pm that day. I thought that I usually run in the evening, it was not a matter at all whether I work. I was wrong. My body was kind of tired that evening. It was also a rainy evening. It started to rain at 3:30pm, and the rain did not even stop a single bit when the race was flagged off at 9:15pm. Well, I just had to run regardless the weather.

It was a tough run for me. A runner from Ipoh led the run in my category. I was far behind her. Another runner also from Ipoh, overtook me half way through. I couldn't pace any faster at all, and I could only keep my own steady speed and running non-stop to complete the race.

So I was at the 3rd placing in women overall and also women veteran 8KM category.
Glory moment

With the 4th placing runner in the same category. We both are also Zumba buddies.

With April before and after the run. She was at 10th placing Women Open 4KM.

With my darlings.
Till then, I have yet to sign up any run. I want a break for all the races. Don't get me wrong, I will still run every day on the treadmill in the gym, at the park outdoor, and also up and down the hill.

Astro CGM 2016 Final

10:15 Yannie 6 Comments

Another throwback post of watching Astro Classic Golden Melody 2016 Final at Stadium Negara on 17 December 2016. It was an awesome experience and I must blog about it.

I and my girls are a die hard fans of Astro CGM. We followed and watched every series of Astro CGM every year. Last year, Astro CGM was given away the final competition free tickets to the fans through FB.  I requested immediately and I got 4 free tickets right away.

When the date was here, April could not go with us, because she already registered herself to a Buddhist camping with friends.

I was so happy that my husband took leave and went with us to the show. He was actually not a fan of the program at all. We took ETS train from Taiping to KL. It was our first ETS ride.

My husband booked the Olympic Sports Hotel which was located just opposite Stadium Negara. The location of the hotel was too good for us to avoid of all the traffics madness. We just walked to watch the concert.
We walked to Stadium Negara as early as 4:30pm to collect the free tickets from the booth, and we managed to take a few pictures at the backdrop of the ten finalists.
Both, I and  May were really thrilled to watch our favorite programs that we always watch on TV, and now watching live from the big stage.
It was really great to watch Gan Jiang Han partnered with an actor from Singapore as the emcees of the show. You will be surprised that if I tell you that I like the only contestant from Singapore the most.  He was the first runner- up at the end.

It was a very fantastic show. It was actually our first experience watching a grand competition live. I do hope that we will have the same opportunity to watch this type of live show again in future.

5 Tips Pre-race Day

16:53 Yannie 8 Comments

1 July 2017 9:00 pm, I am going for a run at Night Safari. I am taking part in 8KM, women veteran category. April is also joining the 4KM, women open fun race. This is the first night run in the town, and this is also my first ever run that I registered with my own money. The previous races were all sponsored by the company that I work.

Why I registered? I am actually not a fan of a marathon or run event, but I run at least 3 to 4 times a week in the gym. Night run sounds good to me as I always run in the evening. Therefore I signed up just to give myself a challenge.

After signing up the night event. I actually train myself harder, and I run at least once or twice a week on the road, and I can see myself improving in the stamina, strength, and speed too. Well, I happened to read a very useful article from http://www.justrunlah.com/2015/11/21/5-things-to-avoid-before-race-day

I love the tips that shared there.
1. The mistake: going for a final training run.
So true that I trained so hard during the Raya holiday and I think I should let my leg muscles rest and recover today and tomorrow. I will still go for a light run to upkeep my stamina, but I won’t force myself to run faster than my comfortable speed.

2. The mistake: carb loading
I will take healthy diet instead of loading myself with more carb than the normal intake.

3. The mistake: new workout gear
I bought new running shoes prior to my KOBL run on 9 April. I wore it for my last two training before the race to ensure that I could run comfortably on it.

4. The mistake: sleeping late
Honestly, I couldn’t sleep well the night before the race. I hope I can sleep better tonight because the race is at tomorrow night.

5. The mistake: alcohol
This is no issue, as I don’t take alcohol. I always take more fluid a few days before the race, so that I can go to the toilet more frequent to clear all the waste and make my body lighter for the run.

Do you have any tips to share with me?

I know, I must have confidence in my training, start the race slow, enjoy the run like my normal workout, prepare myself mentally, eat normal, sleep well, drink more water and set things earlier.

Acne Treatment

08:36 Yannie 7 Comments

When struggling with blemishes, people don’t have the time to scour reviews and test out products to see if they actually work. According to statistics, 95% of people will experience acne at some point in their lives, and 92% have felt their self-esteem has suffered because of it. Many acne cleansers contain ingredients that are counterproductive and cause oily skin, irritation and inflammation so it can be hard to find a formula that works!

When looking for acne treatments you want to make sure you are treating all the symptoms not just one! There can be a combination of symptoms from redness to dryness, blackheads to pimples. This is why a set often is the most effective in fighting acne because it covers so many different skin symptoms. You also want to make sure you are using a set that has at a minimum 2 active ingredients to battle both comedones and pimples. Simple alcohols can harm your skin so make sure to avoid them to maintain your skin’s pH.

The research team over at Reviews.com created a guide to acne treatments that goes very in-depth with identifying the best acne treatments and you can look at their work here:

A visit to Bukit Larut

11:05 Yannie 5 Comments

Throwback of a visit to Bukit Larut on January. It was the first weekend after school reopened, as I missed the chance to take April and May there during the December school break.

Though I will go hiking at the jungle trail on every weekend, I never hike higher up to more than 5KM. I believe the hill road is 13KM long. Because the King Bukit Larut longest running distance is 26KM up and down the hill.

Shame to admit that April and May had never gone up to the top of  Bukit Larut too until they were 13 and 11 years old this year. So happened that one of my aunties was back from Australia, I invited her and another aunt of mine to go up to Bukit Larut by jeep together.

Along the ride to the top of Bukit Larut, my both aunties shared their own stories of hiking up with their schoolmates when they were at the teenage age. They seem had so much fond memories in those days when they spent overnight at the bungalow house on the hill.

As for myself, it has been ages that I last visited the place, so I find it is so much different from last time that I had a barbecue gathering with schoolmates there.

My aunties brought along some fruits and we had a small picnic while chatting.  There is a cafe on the hill, but we didn't try. In fact, the scenery is nice, and the weather is kind of windy. It is indeed a good place for beautiful pictures if you like photographing.

Next time if you visit Taiping, and you want some good pictures for your album and a nice picnic place with your family and friends, please welcome to Bukit Larut. You just need to wake up early to come and buy the ticket of the jeep, because it is not selling online or in advance. It is always selling like a hot cake during a school break or a public holiday.
Besides, it is only 3 to 4 trips (limited to 4 to 5 jeeps per-trip) every day. The ticket price is RM10 for adult and RM5 for children.  Good luck!

Happy Father's Day!

12:51 Yannie 10 Comments

We were just back from the vacation in Krabi, Thailand last two weeks. Since tomorrow is the heroes in the house special day,  I shall just pick a few pictures of them to share here. I just publish the pictures of the father and the daughters which were taken during the trip.

First day, arrival and there started our Krabi city tour.
I was very tired due to the late night bus ride to KLIA2, then taking early flight to Krabi. I felt so drowsy and needed a nap immediately.
We took pictures at a few attraction spots at Krabi city.

Jin Jin and April still looked energetic to smile and pose for the camera. I was just hoping to check in the hotel room as soon as possible.

Day 4, we had a swim soak in Emerald pool which surrounded by rain forest.
We enjoyed and relax at the natural fresh water pool that is in the jungle.
After leaving the Emerald pool, we went to Tiger Cave, a praying place to Buddha and meditation center of Krabi.
The cave has 1237 steps to the top of the mountain. April was reluctant to take the steps to the top due to the very hot weather, I needed to sacrifice showing off my ability of being the queen of Tiger Cave to accompany this lazy princess of mine.
Therefore, Jin Jin and May went up to the top and got down again together. Kudos to May for accompany her dad to accomplish his mission of taking the 1237 steps in such a humid and hot weather in Tiger Cave.

This picture was taken at the night market in Krabi town on Friday evening. We enjoyed the good Thai street food and drinks from the night market, at the same time shopping for souvenir, watching some performance on stage.

I am not sure whether I will write more about our Krabi trip in my next post.

Till then, I wish all the wonderful dads, Happy Father's Day! Happy weekend, all.

I also want to thank my husband for planning, arranging and taking us for holiday each time during the girls' school break. Thanks for being such a great dad to our daughters. Happy Father's Day, April and May's hero!

I won in Women Open 7KM

00:16 Yannie 7 Comments

I woke up rather early on last Sunday for the charity run that I mentioned in my earlier post. I must thank my husband for preparing 3 half boiled eggs and a cup of Milo as my breakie before sending me off to the event. He is always so supportive.

I started by running a little faster. I ran passing the two ladies who started off in front of me and remained as the first throughout the 7KM run.

We, from the same company and standing proud in front of the backdrop which has filled with all our company logos

First time wearing my new running cap to run, a gift from my husband.

The top four runners in Women Open 7KM.

I don't want to deny that I am very happy to bag the champion in this category of this run, as I didn't have much confident prior to the run.

It was the women open category but the top 5 were almost all with the age which qualified for veterans.
I feel so much happier than winning the champion in Women Veteran 10KM in KOBL2017, because this was my first race on flat road and I didn't expect to bag any prize in the beginning.

My next race is on 1st July and it is our first night run in the town.

Yannie, Ganbatte Kudasai.

Charity run 2017

15:35 Yannie 8 Comments

Tomorrow morning I have a run event. It is also sponsored by my company to join a charity school for a local high school. I take part in 7KM women open, as I am only qualified for this category this time.

I don't have much confident as it is the women open and it is only 7KM tar road. I have better endurance than speed in running. A distance of more than 10KM will benefit me more.  Well, I will take it as a trial run for my 8KM night run event in July.

Nevertheless, I will do my very best, as I have put in lots of hard work in training recently.

I just wish that I will enjoy my run and retain my own record. So far, I complete my 7KM in 42 minutes (my pace is 10 kilometers per hour). That is the best I can do for now.

Today, I will go and run 7KM at the actual track as my last round of training for tomorrow run.

Till then, have a nice and pleasant weekend, folks.

Mother's day

15:13 Yannie 9 Comments

Tomorrow is Mother's day. We are going for a simple celebration this evening. We plan to go to a cafe which has Mother's day promotion and live band singer. I am kind of looking forward to the outing.

I am now having an 11 years old child and a 13 years old teenager. They are now so much different than when they were young.

Let me share a few of the differences here.

Case 1: Bedtime,
Then
Girls: Mummy, tonight can I sleep with you? So long I didn't sleep in your room.
Mom: No, sorry. Please sleep in your own room.
(Because mummy needs some me time)

Now
Mom: Girls, can mummy sleep with you? So long I didn't sleep in your room.
Girls: No mummy, you are too big to share my bed.
(Apparently, mummy didn't grow any bigger, but they are the one growing a lot.)

Case 2: What to wear?
Then
Girls: Mummy, please tell me what I should wear for the outing.
(Girls want mummy to decide what they should wear)

Now
Mom: Girls, please tell me what mummy should wear for the outing
(Mummy is seeking opinion and advice from the girls on what to wear now)

Time flies, they are growing up really fast. One thing for sure and it would never change. They are my priority in my life.

Happy Mother's day to all mothers out there.

Happy Get-together

14:05 Yannie 9 Comments

I enjoy my run and work out in the gym. I also like to go hiking with a few friends on weekends, However, every Tuesday and Thursday, I will feel even more excited, as I am looking forwards to join the Zumba lesson in the evening. I am very happy whenever I am in the class with my instructor and other Zumba members. Though I know that I don't burn that much of calories when comparing to run 8KM on the treadmill and also hike 10KM at Bukit Larut. It is the least  strenuous exercise for me in a week. May be because of the music, the move, the friendly atmosphere and the people. I just love going there.

I am checking at my pictures folders, and noticing that I have been to a few gatherings with my Zumba buddies lately. We are qualified to be in the veteran category. We are all having a  different marital status. There are married, single, working mom, housewife, grandmother, divorcee, and widow. We share the laughter, fun, joy and happiness when we are together.

Year End Dinner on December 2016

New Year lesson on February 2017

Chap Goh Meh dinner 2017

Picture just was taken yesterday at Port Weld Seafood Restaurant
Now you all know why all aunties going for exercise, but sill can't lose much weight. It is all because of these gatherings. We sweat and we work out so hard every day, but when going for gatherings, we feast ourselves with scrumptious food. How on earth we can lose weight like that?

Joke aside, we enjoy the outing together actually. Occasionally we also have to let ourselves to enjoy life and be happy, no?

Happy weekend, folks!

My personal training route planner

12:59 Yannie 6 Comments

As I mentioned in my earlier post that I am going for my first road race this July, it is so nice of my husband that he has started to plan a training route for me. He is always very supportive and caring.

He tried to use google map to plan according to the distance that I am going to run. He then explained to me on the direction from where I need to start, when I need to go through and where I need to finish. I then tried to act as innocent as I always used to be and I asked for more landmarks that a google map can provide.

This morning, it is my first training on the route he designed, and I wake up to see this on the white board.

It is so sweet of him, right? He never complained about my busy and active lifestyle, and he is encouraging me in whatever I love to do. Thanks dear. Love you.

It has been 3 continuous weeks that I only eat a cup of ten grains rice that I only cook with pumpkins and purple sweet potatoes as my breakfast. I lose 1.5kg already. A lighter body can allow me to run faster, no?

My overall in KOBL2017

15:18 Yannie 5 Comments

Today I am going to update about my race in Toyo Tires King of Bukit Larut (KOBL) 2017 on 9 April 2017. I am happy to be the champion in Women Veteran 10KM, the 4th place in gender overall and the 40th place in 10KM overall. My timing is 1 hour and 6 minutes 15 seconds. Comparing to KOBL 2015, I was actually the 3rd in women open 10KM. So, I would say that I didn’t retain my previous race position. If it did not have the women veteran category this year, I would come back with just the finisher medal. Thanks to Toyo Tires for the sponsor.

A few days after the race, I didn't rest for long. I again sign up myself for another race on 1 July. That is the first night run my town. I sign up and I pay my own money (very rare case) for the night run, simply because it is at night and I don’t need to wake up early in for the early hour flag off.

I always train myself in the evening in the gym for my 8KM run. So happen this night run has women veteran 8KM race. Therefore, I have to start training harder from now on until 1 July.

Why my blog suddenly turns into a running blog? I just want to update about my activity recently. Well, I have a reason to stay active, I have a mission to complete and I have a goal to achieve. Ain’t this a happy life? As long as you are doing what you enjoy, you will be happy, right?

Other than this, I actually kind of busy at work. My project seems never-ending. I work very hard during office hours too. I do get pressure and stress in the office. Thank goodness that I know how to keep calm and release my tension elsewhere.

That is all for now. You have a nice day ahead, folks.

Preparation for KOBL 2017

17:15 Yannie 5 Comments

I have been taken 10 grains rice with only purple sweet potatoes as my breakfast for the past 1 week. This breakfast can provide me enough energy as it is high carbs. My last training was on Tuesday. It took me 1 hour and 40 minutes to run uphill and downhill without stopping. It ain't my record two years ago. My record is 1 hour and 24 minutes.

I have got my race kits. Due to late submitted name list from my company. Our bibs were all handwritten. Others were printed so nicely. By the way, my company is actually the main sponsor of the event, and 21 of us are sponsored by the company to run tomorrow.

Other than taking the 10 grains rice, I have done less running this week after the Tuesday training at the actual trail. I only attended the two times Zumba lessons as usual. Tonight, I am going for a swim and sauna, then sleep early and wake up early for the event.

Hopefully, I have all the strength to run uphill 5KM and downhill 5KM. By the way, I am running in women veteran 10KM this year. Unlike the KOBL 2015, I was in woman open 10KM category.
I am so excited for the tomorrow race. The most important I must have a good sleep tonight.

My training on hill running

16:45 Yannie 7 Comments

The exam was over. Admittedly I was not doing as great as I wanted myself to do. All blame to not study hard enough. Out 50 questions, I already knew that I had answered 10 incorrect. So, no hope to get distinction, just hope a B instead. Cry!

Now I have to prepare for my 10 KM run at KOBL. 5 KM run uphill, and take the u-turn to run downhill for another 5KM. So far, I had tried running at the actual track for 5 times. I had finally made it yesterday to run uphill for the complete 5KM without stopping to walk for a single step, although I still couldn’t achieve the timing record that I possessed in 2015. My strategy is actually running with smaller step and slower pace in the beginning. This will sustain my energy for longer duration.

When running up a hill, we’ve got to do extra work to overcome gravity. This requires the body to recruit more muscles in the legs to overcome the force of gravity and carry us up the slope.
When running down a hill, we are allowed a “free” increase in running speed (since gravity is giving back all the energy we spent going up the hill.) We generally want to take advantage of this, especially when we are racing.

I feel tremendously good after each training, because my tight, my pelvis and my calf muscles are sore. I never have all this fun when running on treadmills. Therefore I will still go running at Bukit Larut, even after the race.

Some mental cues like “stand tall, chest up, head straight, eyes look in front”, “drive the hips”,  and “lean and go” are great for hill running.

I feel so excited and look forwards to the race on 9 April 2017.

Exam and Race

11:22 Yannie 13 Comments

As you can see the picture that I share here. This training course kept me occupy from July 2016 till now. The exam is set on this coming Friday. On the same day, we need to submit an assignment too, and the questions are stated as in the white sheet.

I guess after this Friday, I shall have more time to blog and visit your blogs than the past 8 months. So, from today until next Thursday, I shall spend more time to study like April and May always do.

Besides, I have again signed up for the King of Bukit Larut 2017 (KOBL 2017). I have started to run at the actual track for the distance that I have registered myself. Can Yannie retain the position as in KOBL 2015? Yannie tries. Wish me luck, folks! I wrote about KOBL 2015 at here and here.

It is amazing that I enjoy learning new things, improving myself and pursuing my passions. I live my life to its fullest as I always know that life is too short.

I just saved the above picture from my Zumba friend's FB. I joined my Zumba members attending the Chap Goh Meh dinner on the date as printed on the backdrop.  I was pushed to go on stage. Serious! I was dragged by others. I finally couldn't refuse the lady singer's multiple requests for dancing on stage with her.

After the dance, all my buddies came hugging me and said things like...
1. I am proud of you.
2. Proud to be your friend.
3. You are so gutsy.
4. You are very good.
5. Salute you! Yan.
6. You look so cool and you are not having stage fright at all.
7. You are admirable!
8. You handle yourself very well on stage.
9. You got class and manage to dance gracefully.
10. You are sporting.
11. I was so surprised and you were so bold.
12. No worry, you didn't embarrass yourself at all.  Many can dance well, but you are the only one have the courage to go up.

Many shared their thoughts and words in our chat group telling me that they enjoyed watching my unplanned performance. Kakakaka!

I just replied them, "All blame to the alcohol!"  It was rare, therefore I still think that it was not my normal self that evening. In fact, I let my hair down to have beers, laughters, joy and fun with friends on occasions.

Till then and have a nice weekend!
